Featured Series: Routledge English Language Introductions

The series aims to provide students with everything they need to grasp the basics and develop their skills for further study within the chosen area. Assuming no prior knowledge, each book offers an accessible overview of the subject, providing activities, study questions, sample analysis, commentaries and key readings. Built around four sections - introduction, development, exploration and extension - the book offers flexible learning, enabling students to read across sections and gradually build on the knowledge gained.

'This series is a first-rate set of textbooks for students beginning the study of linguistics. The contributions have been meticulously planned, clearly structured, and written in an eminently accessible style to enable teachers to structure their courses lucidly with ample opportunities for student home study... Highly recommendable!' - Richard Watts, University of Berne, Switzerland

'This innovatively designed series of coursebooks is not only an excellent starting place for beginners, but it's also a useful pitstop for instructors and more advanced learners. Each book renders an impressive range of theoretical perspectives both accessible and interesting, with key concepts and central issues clearly presented and rooted in contemporary data and analyses.' - Crispin Thurlow, Cardiff University, UK

First appearing in 2001 with the publication of Sociolinguistics: A Resource Book for Students, the Routledge English Language Introductions series have become essential textbooks for A-level and undergraduate courses across English Language departments. Covering a wide range of topics, the series has grown to twelve books and 2010 will see the publication of two more titles - Researching English Language and the series' foundational book, Introducing English Language.

Each book has a dedicated companion website offering extra resources for both lecturers and students.
