<website_blurb>Australia's most anticipated and influential literary festival is back, celebrating writers from here and beyond, home and away. Adelaide Writers' Week has long been acknowledged for the quality and diversity of its speakers, writers encountered in the shade of tents and plane trees where an amiable late-summer mood prevails. Here readers can mingle with some of the world's most distinguished literary figures in a meeting place between a memorial garden for women and a colonial parade ground, on Kaurna country.

In 2010 Adelaide Writers' Week will build on traditions that have evolved over four decades, bringing together writers and readers in a series of stimulating readings, debates and exchanges. Old friends, writers known and respected, will be there alongside new writers with new writing. The popular mix of panel discussions, 'Meet the Author' sessions, lectures and readings will be included.

This time around you will hear writers from around the world: the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, Germany, India and Spain. These meetings will provide opportunities for reflections on our place in the world, taking us beyond Adelaide into the world at large.</website_blurb>

These include social workers, teachers, psychologists, health visitors, kindergarten and child care workers, doctors and community workers. A key concept is that the child's behaviour has meaning and is always a communication. Now based in Melbourne, Ruth was previously inaugural Chief Psychotherapist at the Royal Children's Hospital and is currently Director of the Centre for Child and Family Development in Melbourne. Ruth runs training programmes throughout Australia and overseas. Her forthcoming book 'Core Principles of Assessment and Therapeutic Communication with Children Parents and Families: Towards the promotion of child and family wellbeing' will be available from Routledge in 2010. Ruth's previous book 'Emotional Milestones: Development from birth to adulthood' has been described as making a major contribution to child health.

* Applying a developmental approach to behavioural problems in childhood and adolescence, including attention deficit disorder, depression and youth suicide.
* Developing assessment, diagnostic and case management skills. How to start - what to look for - how to continue.
* Promoting therapeutic communication with children, adolescents and parents - creative opportunities for problem solving.
* Learning is both theoretical and experiential and includes ample opportunities for discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring case material from their own work settings.</website_blurb>

<website_blurb>The 2010 Chicago conference will explore the idea of wildness in our work both as a source of energy and a demarcation of limits. What is too turbulent, unruly, outrageous, or “edgy?” What dangers lie at this frontier, and what untapped opportunities emerge in pushing the limits of technique and relationship? They invite proposals drawing on theoretical considerations, clinical and empirical knowledge, scientific research and technique, and/or the artistic sensibility.

Routledge will be exhibiting all recent and relevant key books and journals at this event.</website_blurb>

This new CBT treatment approach represents 15 years of clinical developments by Dr. Padesky and her colleague, Dr. Kathleen A. Mooney. Participants learn to:

Help clients recognize the benefits of personality changeU

Use structured interviews to help clients conceptualize their “OLD” system of personality

Guide clients to construct a “NEW” system of personality desirable to them

<website_blurb>The conference theme for 2010 is ‘Harm Reduction: The Next Generation’. There are now two and a half decades of harm reduction experience. A substantial body of evidence shows the feasibility and effectiveness of harm reduction in a wide variety of social and cultural settings. But what is needed as we move through to the third decade of harm reduction? How adequate are the models of harm reduction that have been developed? Is the ‘comprehensive package’ of harm reduction for HIV sustainable in low and middle income countries? How can we expand harm reduction to cater for all psychoactive drugs? When we ‘scale-up’ harm reduction, should we just replicate and expand pilots and projects or work to integrate harm reduction into health systems? How does harm reduction intersect with, and change, drug control systems? What new opportunities are there for harm reduction in terms of human rights, security, development and other sectors?</website_blurb>

<website_blurb>Built on a reputation for excellence, this two-day conference has much to offer those working in the counselling and psychotherapy world, including researchers, students, trainers, providers and practitioners. The theme of the 2010 conference is "Research Impacts", reflecting our understanding of the significant effect research has on policy, practice and training. We aim to debate and discuss how research informs practice and so impacts on both clients and practitioners. Similarly the influence research has on policy-makers, commissioners and service managers shapes the way psychological therapies are delivered in the UK. Those who undertake and participate in research are often deeply affected by the process of enquiry, helping to shape the way we think about the work we do and the world of therapy.</website_blurb>

* to enable people of different cultures, countries, genders, ages, class backgrounds, physical abilities and sexual identities to come together, enjoy each other’s company, and have a sense that the conference program and processes include their perspectives, hopes and ideas
* to use the conference as a chance to acknowledge and come to terms with the history of the land on which it is held
* to create an opportunity for participants to build a sense of connectedness and to contribute to the building of a community of ideas
* to provide the opportunity and support necessary for individuals and groups who have never presented before at conferences (and indeed may never have told their stories in front of an audience) to present the stories of their lives and their particular knowledges and skills in keynote addresses
* to create an atmosphere that is non-hierarchical, with no pronounced difference between presenters and participants
* to provide a forum for conversations that are expanding the field (not confirming it or simply reiterating what is already known)
* to de-centre the conference collective in both the lead-up and during the conference itself so that the focus remains on everyone’s contributions to a community event.</website_blurb>

<website_blurb>This is the first time the IAAP Congress will take place in Canada, a word whose Iroquois origin means “cluster of dwellings”. How fitting that Canada should host the coming together of the diverse clusters of the Jungian world to address our concerns for the inner world as well as for the outer ecological world. Montreal provides an ideal setting to explore the theme of multiplicity. As the largest city in the province of Quebec, the only French speaking enclave in North America, Montreal is a multicultural centre where the French culture and language are both enriched and challenged by its multi ethnic composition and by the overpowering presence and influence of the English language and North American culture. Québec and its culture is a hybrid and unique combination of old Europe and modern North America sculpted into its actual form by the many winds that have blown since its founding a mere 400 years ago.</website_blurb>

<website_blurb>As in previous years, the aims of this highly successful and popular programme of lectures and seminars will be to provide an intensive training in empirical and conceptual approaches to psychoanalytic research in a number of areas including: longitudinal research (John Clarkin, Head of Faculty); attachment research (Peter Fonagy); developmental research (Bob Emde); psychoanalytic process research (Horst Kächele); personality and psychopathology research (Patrick Luyten); emotion research (Doris Peham); psychotherapy research (Rolf Sandell); and conceptual research (Juan Pablo Jiménez and Marianne Leuzinger-Bohleber).

A central part of the experience for trainees will be the opportunity to present and discuss their own research projects and research goals with members of the Faculty and other participants. The curriculum will include an introduction to current research methods, as well as particular applications as exemplified by the research programmes of members of the Faculty. Interested applicants can read more details of the programme, its goals and a review of its first two years in the Guest Editorial of the International Journal of Psycho analysis vol 78, no. 4, pp 643 651 (1997). Descriptions and findings of IPA funded research projects can be found on http://www.ipa.org.uk/research/index.asp

The programme will offer constructive and critical reviews of projects in a way that should facilitate grant writing and fundraising and thus provide additional opportunities for continuing psychoanalytic research, as the IPA is now offering pilot moneys to do such research. We also anticipate that participants of the Research Training Programme will benefit from networking skills with consultants and collaborators for their future work. They will join an active network of over 300 IPA Research Fellows spanning the globe but in active contact by e-mail, list-serves and conferences.</website_blurb>
