Reviewers' Comments

General

"The latest edition of Cognitive Psychology by Eysenck and Keane represents a considerable improvement over the previous edition. The written style is clear and readable, and the coverage of topics and issues in the chapters is comprehensive. There has been a substantial updating of references in comparison to previous editions, and many areas ignored or poorly dealt with before (e.g., connectionist modelling, consciousness, brain imaging) have been expanded on. Overall it provides an excellent introductory textbook for cognitive psychology, and remains the best currently available on the market."
David G Pearson, University of Aberdeen

"I welcome the frequent and thorough revision of this outstanding text. I recommend it as my standard text in cognitive psychology at the moment, and the publication of a new edition should ensure that I continue to do so in future."
Trevor Harley, University of Dundee

"Eysenck & Keane... describe complicated things elegantly and lucidly. The book is remarkably up-to-date. I know that it will be well received in my own department, where there is a growing interest in fMRI and I believe that this will be true of departments of psychology and cognitive science throughout the world. I do not think the material could have been better presented."
Ian Gordon, University of Exeter

"It is the dynamism of the writing that marks this text out from the rest. The text does not simply reflect modern cognition, it makes clear and well-argued demands of it. While the structure of the text will ensure those with less clear interests in cognition will be able to take advantage of the raft of pedagogic techniques, the most talented students will have the opportunity to flourish. This isn't a book only for note taking: it is for understanding, for debating and for taking forward."
Gerry Quinn, University of St Andrews

"As in the earlier editions of the book, the authors succeed in deploying large amounts of detailed evidence on each topic without ever letting the reader lose sight of the theoretical questions involved. The conclusions are always careful and balanced, and difficulties involved in interpreting the evidence are discussed fully."
Patrick Green, Heriot-Watt University

Thinking and Reasoning

"Eysenck and Keane's new chapters on Thinking and Reasoning brilliantly cover central topics in the psychological study of problem solving, creativity, and judgement and decision making. Their many astute and judicious comments will benefit both advanced researchers and students new to these subject areas."
David Over, University of Sunderland

"I found the chapters on thinking, reasoning and decision making to be eclectic in coverage and both well-balanced and clear in presentation. They provide an excellent introduction to these important topics for undergraduate students."
Jonathan St B T Evans, University of Plymouth

Language

"The chapters on the psychology of language are set in a sharply defined framework of general principles and specific issues with which a student of this area needs to become familiar. The evaluative sub-sections are concise and to the point. What is especially impressive is the range and recency of many of the findings that are reported. These sections will prove invaluable as an up-to-date resource for the student, and go beyond what is presented in many other titles. My attention was particularly struck by the balanced and comprehensive coverage given to the reading skill."
Dr John Field, Birkbeck College London
