Following are suggestions to assist individuals who have difficulties retrieving information they have learned:
- Provide frequent verbal cues and reminders (e.g., prompts/choices when having the individual recount stories).
- Leave frequent phone messages.
- Provide the individual with visual lists/notes/reminders.
- Use alarm clocks to remind the individual of important tasks to complete (e.g., take medications, pick up children, etc.).
- Use a pager system to remind person of important tasks.
- Use automatic telephone reminders to remind the person of important tasks that need to be completed (e.g., purchase service from local phone companies).
- Have the individual use a digital voice reminder to prompt memory (available for purchase from most local office supply stores).
- Use a memory notebook.
- Use a daily planner.
- Use a palmtop computer.
