Exploring Positive Identities and Organizations

Exploring Positive Identities and Organizations

Building a Theoretical and Research Foundation

  • Edited by Laura M. Roberts, Jane E. Dutton

The goal of this book is to forge new ground on identity research through cutting edge compilation of articles by leading identity scholars. Identities will be looked at the individual, dyadic, group and organizational levels. The goal is to stress the positive and have the authors concentrate on what is beneficial, valuable and good in some way. The framing builds an important bridge between identity theories and positive organizational scholarship, and will therefore be of interest to an international community of scholars who seek to understand mechanisms and generate positive dynamics, states and outcomes in their work organizations.

Some key features of the book include:

  • Building a community between scholars who are already conducting research on this topic
  • Establishing positive identities as a construct domain for organizational research and specify the processes and mechanisms associated with constructing and maintaining positive identities
  • Developing diverse perspectives on forming and nurturing positive identies and organizations
  • Facilitating the application of a positive identity perspective to new and established areas of Organizational Behavior, Organizational Theory and Management.

A unique feature will be the use of connecting commentatory chapters at the end of each section. These commentators uncover and discuss integrative themes that emerge in the chapters within a section. Big names in the identity field like Blake Ashforth, Mary Ann Glynn and Jeffrey Sanchez-Burks have been asked to do these.
