About the Principles of Social Psychology Series

Principles of Social Psychology is a new generation of social psychology textbooks, which aims to reflect the dynamic growth of the field, integrating diverse disciplinary perspectives on an increasingly global scale. The basic commitment of the series is twofold: to articulate the principles and explanatory mechanisms underlying a variety of social behavior; and to relate them to real-world phenomena and concerns. Therefore, the emphasis is on broad principles and dynamic processes that synthesize large bodies of empirical research, rather than on descriptive reviews of such research.

Each volume in the series will demonstrate the explanatory power of social psychology as a discipline. It will intellectually stimulate students by delving beyond the surface to identify underlying mechanisms of individual and social behavior, and relating them to genuine problems and issues besetting contemporary society. This series provides an opportunity to engage in the broader societal dialogue about social psychological issues-thereby taking its message beyond the laboratory and into the real world.
