Series: Social Psychology: A Modular Course.
The second edition of this thoroughly revised textbook provides an updated and expanded overview of social psychological research on aggression.
The first part covers the definition and measurement of aggression, presenting major theories, and also charting its development whilst at the same time examining the role of personality and gender differences. This part also covers the role of situational factors in eliciting aggression, and the impact of using violent media.
The second part of the book is devoted to specific forms and manifestations of aggression, including chapters on aggression in everyday life (such as bullying at school and in the workplace, aggressive driving, and aggression in the context of sports events), domestic violence against children, intimate partners, and elders, and sexual aggression. Two new chapters are added to this second edition which address intergroup aggression and terrorism. The concluding chapter explores strategies at individual and societal level for reducing and preventing aggression.
The book will be essential reading for students and researchers in social psychology and related disciplines. It will also be of interest to practitioners working with aggressive individuals and groups and to policy-makers dealing with aggression as a social problem.
